One-Sided or Two-Sided Cards

Create simple one-sided cards with pictures, words, or both. Logged-in users can also create two-sided cards with another language on the back.

Ideas for Classroom Use

  • Vocabulary introduction and review
  • Matching and memory games
  • Speaking and pronunciation practice
  • Small-group and learning-station activities

Choosing a Card Size

For a large class, use one card per page so learners can see the picture or word from across the room. Two cards per page work well with a smaller class. Choose 16 cards per page when preparing matching, memory, or other tabletop card games.

Language and Recall Activities

Put English on the front and Japanese on the back, or reverse the languages to match the lesson. Image-only cards encourage learners to remember and say the word without reading it first. Picture-and-word cards are useful when introducing new vocabulary.

Printing Tips

Print one test page before printing the complete set. For two-sided cards, use thicker paper so the reverse side is less visible through the page. Laminate cards that will be handled frequently to help them last longer.

These flashcards are especially useful for young learners and language students. Use them to introduce vocabulary, lead quick reviews and guessing games, organize matching activities, or run friendly group competitions.
